Jessica Laven (she/her) got a red suitcase record player at age 3 just so she could listen to her favorite song at the time, "Chariots of Fire." It all bloomed from there.
Growing up, Jessica was active in her music community as a singer and piano player. She participated in ACDA honor choirs in elementary school and was a MN all-state choir member and Luther College Dorian Festival semi-finalist in high school. She also took piano lessons and played string bass in her junior high and high school orchestras. As a bonus, she was a Christmas caroler in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s cinematic masterpiece "Jingle All the Way," which filmed here in the Twin Cities in 1996.
Jessica received a BA in music from Northern Arizona University, where she sang with the Shrine of Ages choir, the vocal jazz ensemble, and the chamber singers. She toured throughout North America and Europe and served as the secretary of the NAU Choral Union.
Later, Jessica received two masters degrees and a post-graduate certification in special education; she now works with children who are blind and visually impaired.
Jessica lives in South Minneapolis with her husband, stepkids, and two grouchy cats. She sings in the alto section for VocalEssence and is glad to be at Blue Tree as a piano teacher.
Jessica teaches beginner and intermediate piano on Mondays and has slots available now! Click the link below to get started.
