Jacky Thao is driven by a rare blend of artistic creativity and hands-on craftsmanship, building parallel careers in both music and construction. As a musician, he thrives on collaboration within the local community. With over a decade of piano experience—beginning as a self‑taught ten‑year‑old and later developing into a professionally trained pianist—Jacky brings both technical skill and expressive artistry to every performance. He earned his Music Business degree from Augsburg University, gaining experience in copyright, contract writing, and independent music entrepreneurship. Jacky performs regularly at Augsburg University and throughout Minneapolis, and has been honored with multiple invitations to play at Governor Tim Walz’s residence. His work extends into the city’s jazz scene, including performances at Jazz Central Studios and Berlin.
Alongside his musical pursuits, Jacky has cultivated strong abilities in construction and carpentry. He has hands-on experience in framing homes from the ground up, deconstruction, and painting. His work with nonprofit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Hearts and Hammers reflects his commitment to community impact—restoring older homes for low‑income residents and volunteering to build new homes on Saint Paul’s east side.
Beyond his professional life, Jacky serves as a board member and treasurer for Minnesota Zej Zog (MZZ), a Hmong‑owned nonprofit dedicated to preserving Hmong language and culture through arts and storytelling. He oversees financial operations and supports fundraising efforts for programs like the iStrive summer camps.
