Heidi (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist and teacher who loves being creative and working with all kinds of people!
She grew up taking piano lessons from age 5, flute from age 9 and landed all the good roles in the musical theater productions her mom directed (hmmmm). She sang in All-State Choir, Wheaton College Concert Choir and with fellow Blue Tree teacher Jessica Laven as the unforgettable Caroler #7 in the movie “Jingle All the Way.”
Heidi holds a Master of Education and taught K-12 Visual Art in Minnesota before budget cuts prompted her move to Los Angeles in 2012 to freelance across the arts. There she did commercial acting, comedy improv at the Groundlings, launched a live musical sketch comedy show in Hollywood with collaborators, produced independent work for theater and screen, illustration, photography, photo editing with Getty Images, some costume design, miniature props fabrication for Jurassic World, Barbie and American Girl web series, art department for TV/film and puppetry.
In 2013 Heidi was invited to teach piano at Temecula Music Teacher (where she taught a sweet 7th grader named Olivia Rodrigo), and she has continued teaching piano ever since. She has taught pre-schoolers through adults from all backgrounds and loves supporting individual student interests and goals. She even built out a minivan during the pandemic to teach remote piano lessons in when driving across the country to work on a regenerative farm in Vermont and later puppeteer on a pilot episode of a children’s TV show in Pittsburgh.
After a few years back in California teaching at a 1st-5th grade nature based one room schoolhouse on a biodynamic farm (of “The Biggest Little Farm” documentary), Heidi is finally back in the Twin Cities again and excited to be teaching at Blue Tree! You may also catch her lake swimming, rock climbing, skate skiing, or inside a giant puppet at May Day or Barebones.
